We mentioned that drop photography is a small-scale studio photography. Applying make-up to the drop or liquid form, which is our model, increases the effect it creates on the audience.

This make-up process does not mean just mixing paint into the liquid. Factors such as the background used, the flash light techniques used, the camera shooting angle, the qualities of the light softeners play an important role in the formation of this make-up.

Basically, there are two main techniques in liquid coloring.
1-Shots taken without adding any coloring dye to the liquid.
2-Shots made by adding coloring dye to the liquid.

In the shots taken without adding colorant to the liquid, either the background is colored or the flash lights are colored. In this technique, specially produced colored gels are used to color the flash lights. When the background is arranged in color, the flash lights are positioned so that light is reflected from these colored areas to the area where drops will form. (Figure 1)
Again, by attaching colored gel and honeycomb in front of the flash lights, the light can be cast directly on the drop in color. However, such strobe lights are quite harsh and can create glare on the drop.

The dyes used in the shots made by adding colorant to the liquid are collected in two main groups.

Food coloring preserves the light permeability of the liquid and gives good results when using a flash behind the drop. Since the number of flashes used in these paints will be less, a technically cheaper system can be installed. Food dyes can be sold in liquid and powder form. When the powders are not well mixed and melted, they form prominent traces in the form of drops, which saves us additional time processing the photo.
